Work-Based Learning

Hickory Public Schools is committed to providing quality work-based learning (WBL) opportunities for its students via the Career-Technical Education program.  Work-based learning (WBL) is an educational strategy aimed at providing students with real-life experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills as well as develop employability skills in a real world setting.  Work-based learning is an integral component of the Career-Technical Education (CTE) program that benefit students, schools, employers, and communities.

Work-based learning can come in a variety of forms such as:
- Job Shadowing
- Internships
- Apprenticeships
- Business/Industry Field Trips
- Entrepreneurial Experiences
- School Based Enterprises
