Hickory City School’s Career and Technical Education Department proudly announces the nomination of Terry Drum, an esteemed automotive teacher at Hickory High School, for the North Carolina Center for Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year.
Mr. Drum's nomination reflects his outstanding dedication, innovative teaching methods, and exceptional ability to inspire students to reach their full potential. His passion for education and commitment to excellence have made him a standout choice for this prestigious recognition.
The nomination process for the NCCAT CTE Teacher of the Year involves several evaluation stages. Drum will submit a portfolio of three essays to the Regional Education Service Alliance for review. From the submissions, regional finalists will be selected to attend a celebration and week of Teacher Professional Development at NCCAT’s Cullowhee campus from September 30 to October 4, 2024.
During this intensive week of learning and collaboration, the NCCAT CTE Teacher of the Year Selection Committee will meticulously review the portfolios and interview the 24 finalists. The winner will be announced at a celebratory event on October 3, 2024.
Upon receiving this nomination, Mr. Drum expressed his heartfelt gratitude, stating, "I am genuinely honored to have been selected by my same peers, as every single one of them is more than deserving of this title. They are not only my co-workers but are my friends and support system day in and day out. I can’t express how incredibly thankful I am to each person who has been a part of this experience and for their confidence in me, even when I lack that confidence in myself."
Mr. Drum also shared his appreciation for Hickory City Schools' commitment to Career and Technical Education, saying, "I am more than grateful to be a small part of Hickory City Schools CTE program. It’s refreshing to see a school district that promotes and advocates for Career and Technical Education opportunities for its students, and I have high hopes to see the program grow each year."
In conclusion, Mr. Drum humbly remarked, "Again, I am truly humbled to be named Hickory City Schools CTE Teacher of the Year."
